  • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup mixed chopped nuts (pistachios and walnuts)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup rosewater
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Layer eight sheets of phyllo in the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  3. In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts with half of the sugar, then spread evenly over the phyllo layers.
  4. Add six more layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter and sprinkling the remaining nut mixture halfway through.
  5. Finish with eight more layers of phyllo on top, cutting diamond shapes into the surface.
  6. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While baking, combine water, remaining sugar, honey, and rosewater in a saucepan; bring to a boil and simmer until slightly thickened.
  8. Pour the hot syrup over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven. Allow to absorb before serving.
